The wooden slat screen outside our front door needed to be repainted. To do the job properly I would need to remove the 18 slats, but there was a problem. The slats had to be refitted in the same position and orientation as they came off. I could write numbers on them, but they would only be painted over.
One end of the slats is not normally visible so I thought about stamping numbers into the end of each slat. The problem was that I didn’t have a set of punches. The answer was to drill a series of shallow dimples of two different sizes into the ends of the slats. Notice the numbering system?
Too geeky?
